Worship and Music
St. Matthew’s Worship & Music Committee comes together to plan
that which is pleasing to Our Lord, to plan for our worship
together as the family of St. Matthew and to give thanks for God’s
grace given to us in Word and Sacrament.
The Worship & Music Committee is responsible for worship
planning, reviewing hymns for worship, scheduling of the worship
participants and Altar Guild, planning for the seasons of the
church year, keeping church council informed on plans of the
committee and forwarding recommendations as necessary,
evaluation of worship services and special events.
The committee meets the first Tuesday of the month beginning at
6:00 P.M. Anyone who would like to join us for our meetings (to
visit or join us on a regular basis) is most certainly welcome!
Learning Ministries
Our Learning Ministry Committee seeks to provide a lifelong
program of Christian Education that will empower the people of
God of all ages to learn the Holy Scriptures and Lutheran
teachings, and apply them to their daily lives.
The committee typically meets on the third Monday of the month
at 7:00 p.m. in the Pastor's study to exchange and update
information between departments and discuss ways to increase
effectiveness of our subcommittees. Our subcommittees include
Sunday Church School, Cradle Roll, Confirmation and Vacation
Bible School.
This committee is dedicated to seeing St. Matthews grow
spiritually and in its membership.
Some things that we undertake are greeting visitors and members
before each service. The committee is responsible for making
Welcome Gift Bags for our new members. We also keep in touch
with our young adults in college, the armed forces and distance
work study by sending greeting cards and newsletters once we
receive their addresses from family members.
We are an outreach church actively supporting Prison Ministry in
Carbon County as well as collecting for the local Food Pantry
housed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lehighton. We are also a
Support Church to People's EC Church (Wagner St.) through the
Family Promise program, a county wide outreach program for
homeless families.
For the past 40 years, St. Matthew's has sponsored Boy Scout
Troop 187, Cub Scout Pack 187 and a Girl Scout Troop that all
meet at the church every week on designated evenings.
More recently, we have a Yoga group that meets weekly in our
building. Marsha Long is our contact person and she may be
reached through the church office.
Willing Workers
The Willing Workers committee organizes periodic fundraisers such as pizza and hoagie coupon
sales, spaghetti dinners, bazaars, flea markets, soup sales, craft and bake sales, etc. Profits help St.
Matthew's with the Oil Fund, Building Fund and "wish list" items not included in the church budget.
We have also helped neighbors in need in the event of a tragedy.
We have an annual Halloween party for all ages, we visit the shut-ins at Christmastime, serve
luncheons for funerals, and organize and serve the Annual Congregational Budget & Thanksgiving
Dinner, just to name a few of our regular activities. The Willing Workers have also purchased an
Organist gown and white albs for the Acolytes and Crucifers.
In the past, we've assisted youth with funding for synod and church wide trips and educational
seminars. We also supported a scholarship fund for seminarians and scholars.
One of our most recent projects was to replace the carpet in the Narthex, in memoriam to Joan
Scheckler, valued friend and past President of the Willing Workers for many years.
We are always willing to help where ever we are needed and willing to do whatever is needed to
keep the church functioning smoothly.
New volunteers are always welcome. Please contact Willing Workers President, Jerri Vanage through
the church office.
Stewardship
The goal of our stewardship ministry at St. Matthew's is to help God's people grow in their
relationship with Jesus through the use of the time, talents and finances God has entrusted to them.
It is also our purpose to educate everyone at St. Matthew's about all aspects of our stewardship
responsibilities, keeping the central focus being that all we have and all that we are is because God
has blessed us. Everything belongs to God and it is our responsibility to manage it they way God has
intended.
A few of our committees responsibilities include planning and hosting an annual response event,
such as Consecration Sunday, giving a monthly Temple Talk, overseeing a Stewardship Exchange of
the Month to share God's blessings with others, and various other projects that will encourage and
inspire all to consider stewardship in all that we do.

What is your talent and what do you feel is your calling to serve God?
Finance Committee
Our Finance Committee is responsible for gathering information for budget preparation, appointing
periodic audits of the financial statements through the Audit Committee, overseeing that spending
its assets.
The Finance Committee members are Fred Bresswein, Charles Wade, Jerri Vanage, Melissa Wagner
and Michael Everett. All Finance members are appointed by St. Matthew's Church Council.
Any questions regarding our finances may be directed to any committee member through the
church office or via the church's email at stmattlc@ptd.net.
Building and Property Committee
The Building and Property Committee is responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the church
and church grounds. Anyone interested in helping out with this committee should contact
Mr. Mike Muffley through the church office or email.
Cemetery Board
St. Matthew's Cemetery is located on Skyline Drive, just off Fairyland Road in Franklin Township.
There are both burial plots and cremation plots available for purchase. For more information about
purchasing plots, please contact Mr. Charles Wade through the church office at (610)377-2972.
Our Cemetery Board meets bi-monthly and new members are always welcome. The responsibilities of
the Board include caring for the cemetery property as well as overseeing all financial aspects
associated with the cemetery.
